Fairfield, IL – The Frontier Community College Baseball team opened the lid on the season Tuesday night in Walnut Ridge Arkansas against Williams Baptist College JV. Frontier took both games by score of 14-2 in game one and 14-2 in game two earning there first sweep of the year. With the wins Frontier is now 2-0 on the regular season. The Bobcats will be back in action this Friday in Birmingham Alabama as they take on Lawson State Community College.
Game #1
Four hits from Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR) paved the way to victory for Frontier over Williams Baptist JV 14-2 in game one of the double header on Tuesday. Martinez singled in the second, doubled in the third, homered in the fifth, and doubled in the sixth.
Frontier got things started in the first inning when Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL) hit a solo homer.
Frontier notched six runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by Frontier was led by Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR), Grey Briggs (Henderson, TX), Otero, and Trey Woosley (Breckenridge, KY), all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Gamaliel Rodriguez (Camuy, PR) was the winning pitcher for Frontier. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two and a third innings, striking out three and walking one. Joseph Perez (Corpus Cristi, TX) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Frontier launched three home runs on the day. Woosley had a long ball in the seventh inning. Otero went for the long ball in the first inning. Martinez had a homer in the fifth inning.
Frontier racked up 14 hits on the day. Martinez, Woosley, Briggs, and Otero all collected multiple hits for Frontier. Martinez led the Bobcats with four hits in five at bats.
Game #2
Frontier defeated Williams Baptist JV 14-2 in game two of the double header thanks to a timely ten runs in a big third inning. Frontier's big bats in the inning were led by singles by Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR), Nick Labbie (Houston, TX), Matthew Lawson (Monticello, GA), Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL), and doubles by Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR) and Martinez, by Matthew Espinosa (Dallas, TX), and an error on a ball put in play by Troy Davis (Carthage, TX).
Frontier got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored three runs for the Bobcats.
Frontier tallied ten runs in the third inning. Frontier batters contributing to the big inning included Martinez, Labbie, Soto, Davis, Lawson, and Otero, all driving in runs in the frame.
Trayce Abbott (McLoud, OK) got the win for Frontier. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out five. Jared Ortiz (Ponce, PR) threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Frontier totaled 16 hits. Trey Woosley (Breckinridge, KY), Lawson, Soto, Martinez, Otero, and Labbie all had multiple hits for Frontier. Lawson and Woosley each collected three hits to lead the cats.
