BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM MORTON COLLEGE IN HOME OPENER

Fairfield, IL – The Frontier Community College baseball team played their home opener at FNB Field last Saturday as they hosted Morton College (Cicero, IL).  The Bobcats defeated Morton in a pair of victories that went down to the wire.  Game one ended 5-4 and game two ended 8-6.  With the wins, Frontier now moves to 7-3-1 on the regular season.  The Cats will be back in action at FNB Field this Thursday, March 8th, as they host Olney Central College.  Game time is set for 3pm.  

 

GAME #1
Brendan Mafnas's Walk off Picture Perfect Ending In Frontier's Victory Over Morton College

Frontier took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 5-4 walk-off victory over Morton College. Frontier was down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Brendan Mafnas (Riverview, FL) doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Frontier got things started in the second inning when Grey Briggs (Henderson, TX) drew a walk, scoring one run.

Brice Stuteville (Evansville, IN) led the Frontier to victory on the pitcher's mound. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out five and walking one.

Frontier saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR), Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR), Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL), and Mafnas all had multiple hits for Frontier.

 

GAME #2
Frontier Nabs Win Over Morton In Game Two Despite Early 6-Run Inning

Frontier claimed an 8-6 victory on Saturday, despite a big push by Morton College in the fourth inning.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Frontier collected seven hits and Morton three in the high-scoring affair.

In the first inning, Frontier got their offense started. Trey Woolsey's (Breckenridge, KY) sac fly scored one run for Frontier.

Frontier pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR) singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Woosley was the winning pitcher for Frontier. He allowed two hits and zero runs over three and a third innings, striking out six.  Jared Ortiz (Ponce, PR) threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Woosley recorded the last ten outs to earn the save for Frontier.

Soto led Frontier with two hits in two at bats.
