BASEBALL BOBCATS GO 1-2 IN REND LAKE SERIES
Fairfield, IL – The Frontier Community College baseball team squared toed it up with Rend Lake Community College this Wednesday and Thursday. The bobcats would drop the series winning 1 out fo 3 games. Game one was a 15-5 lose, game two was a 11-7 win and game three saw the Cats lose a tough fought 6-3 ballgame. Frontier now moves to 9-9-1 on the season and 1-5 in Region-24 play. The Bobcats will be back in action this Monday March 19th at Spoon River Community College for a single 9 inning contest starting at 2pm.
Game 1: Rend Lake Runs Away With Early Lead In Victory
Frontier watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 15-5 loss to Rend Lake on Wednesday. Rend Lake scored on a home run by #2 in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by #2 in the second inning.
Frontier struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Rend Lake, giving up 15 runs.
Frontier got on the board in the first inning. Chris Iltshishin (Waterloo, ON) doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Rend Lake scored five runs in the third inning.
Brady Schnarr (Waterloo, ON) started the game for Frontier. He allowed ten hits and eight runs over three innings, striking out two. Matt Stevenson (Albion, IL) and Devan Rich (Mount Carmel, IL) entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.
Frontier tallied 12 hits in the game. Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR), Adrian Martinez Toa Alta, PR), Troy Davis (Carthage, TX), Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL), and Iltshishin all managed multiple hits for Frontier
Game 2: Frontier Grabs Lead In Seventh Inning For Victory Over Rend Lake
Frontier took the lead late and defeated Rend Lake 11-7 on Thursday. Frontier was down 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Grey Briggs (Henderson, TX) homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
There was plenty of action on the base paths as Frontier collected 17 hits and Rend Lake had seven.
Rend Lake took an early lead in the second inning with a solo homer.
Frontier scored three runs in the eighth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Matthew Lawson (Monticello, GA), Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR), and Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR).
Rend Lake scored three runs in the sixth inning.
Nick Labbie (Houston, TX) led things off on the hill for Frontier. He surrendered four runs on three hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three.
Frontier launched two home runs on the day. Briggs went deep in the seventh inning. Martinez had a homer in the fifth inning.
Frontier saw the ball well today, racking up 17 hits in the game. Trey Woosley (Breckinridge, KY), Soto, Martinez, and Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL) all managed multiple hits for Frontier. Woosley led Frontier with four hits in five at bats. Frontier was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Woosley made the most plays with 13.
Game 3: Frontier Falls Short To Rend Lake, 6-3
Frontier took an early lead in the first inning. Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR) drove in one when he singled.
After Rend Lake scored one run in the top of the third, Frontier answered with one of their own. Frontier then answered when Brendan Mafnas (Riverview, FL) doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Rend Lake took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning.
Trayce Abbott (McLoud, OK) started the game for Frontier. He surrendered two runs on two hits over three innings, striking out four. Trey Woosley (Breckinridge, KY) and Gamaliel Rodriguez (Camuy, PR) entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
Mafnas, Grey Briggs (Henderson, TX), Chris Iltshishin (Waterloo, ON), Troy Davis (Carthage, TX), Martinez, and Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR) each managed one hit to lead the Bobcats
