Fairfield, IL – The Frontier Community College baseball team traveled to Alabama this past weekend to face off with Lawson State Community College (Birmingham, AL) and Bevill State Community College (Fayette, AL). The Bobcats defeated Lawson State in a pair of games by scores of 3-2 and 9-6. Traveling to Fayette, the team earned a 5-1 victory and a 2-2 tie in 11 innings due to running out of daylight. With these wins, Frontier now moves to 5-0-1 on the regular season. The Cats will be back in action at FNB Field this Wednesday, February 21, as they play host to Greenville College in a single 9-inning contest at 2PM.
GAME #1 at Lawson State
Frontier Claims Lead In Seventh Inning To Defeat Lawson State
Frontier ran off with the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Lawson State on Sunday. The game was tied at 2 with Frontier batting in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run for Frontier.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Frontier pitchers struck out six, while Lawson State pitchers sat down four.
Lawson State got things started in the first inning. #16 doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Brady Schnarr (Waterloo, ON) led Frontier to a victory on the pitcher's mound. He allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking zero. Bo Robison (Morganfield, KY) and Trey Woosley (Breckinridge, KY) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Woosley recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Frontier.
Woosley led Frontier with two hits in three at bats. Frontier didn't commit a single error in the field. Woosley had eight chances in the field, which was the most on the team.
GAME #2 at Lawson State
Frontier Sets The Stage For Victory With Early Lead Over Lawson State
Frontier grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-6 victory over Lawson State on Sunday. Frontier scored on a single by Matthew Espinosa (Dallas TX), a single by Bryan Soto (Vega Baja, PR), and a single by Troy Davis (Carthage, TX) in the second inning.
Lawson State scored four runs in the third inning, but Frontier still managed to pull out the victory.
Frontier pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. Espinosa singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run; Soto singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs; and Davis singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
Jared Ortiz (Ponce, PR) took the win for Frontier. He pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four. Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Otero recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Frontier.
Frontier collected 12 hits on the day. Davis, Espinosa, and Soto all managed multiple hits for Frontier. Davis, Espinosa, and Soto each collected two hits to lead Frontier.

Frontier Defeats Bevill State, 5-1
Frontier beat Bevill State 5-1 on Monday.
Frontier got on the board in the first inning when Kenny Otero (West Palm Beach, FL) doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Trayce Abbott (McCloud, OK) pitched Frontier to victory. He went four and a third innings, allowing one run on zero hits and striking out four. Jared Ortiz (Ponce, PR) and Bo Robison (Morganfield, KY) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Robison recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Frontier.
Frontier saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Otero, Trey Woosley (Breckinridge, KY), and Troy Davis (Carthage, TX) all collected multiple hits for Frontier. Otero led Frontier with three hits in four at bats.

Tight Game Between Bevill State CC And Frontier CC Spring 2018 Ends In A Tie
Bevill State tied the game on a single in the fifth inning, as Frontier tied Bevill State 2-2 on Monday.
In the first inning, Bevill State got their offense started when #24 grounded out, scoring one run.
Frontier collected eight hits. Adrian Martinez (Toa Alta, PR) and Brendan Mafnas (Riverview, FL) each managed two hits to lead Frontier. Frontier was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Troy Davis (Carthage, TX) had the most chances in the field with eight.
