The Bobcats nearly pulled off a stunning comeback Wednesday afternoon on the road at Vincennes University, but fell just short in a 13-12 loss to the Trailblazers. A seven-run rally in the ninth inning brought them within one, but VU managed to hold on for the win.
The game started evenly, with both teams scoring two runs in the first inning. The Bobcats took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, but Vincennes responded with a run in the fourth to tie it at 3-3. Frontier briefly regained the lead in the fifth, 4-3, before the Trailblazers' bats exploded for an eight-run bottom half, surging ahead 11-4. The Bobcats added a run in the sixth, but Vincennes answered with one of their own, extending the lead to 12-5. A final Trailblazers run in the eighth pushed the score to 13-5 before the Bobcats mounted their dramatic ninth-inning comeback, plating seven runs but ultimately coming up just short.
Gael Salinas led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Isaiah Thompson launched a solo home run and drove in two runs, while Justin Early and Chance Pair each added key RBI hits.
On the mound, Braxton Mathews and Miles Whitesell turned in solid relief efforts, each throwing two scoreless innings, with Whitesell striking out two.
